Takema Seicha — A Cup of Tea in the Hills of Yamaga, Kumamoto (English below)
以前、岳間（たけま）渓谷の記事で「この一帯はお茶どころで、岳間茶という銘茶がある」と少し触れました。今回は、その岳間茶を実際に味わえるお店を紹介します。
岳間には、お茶の販売所がいくつかあります。そのうちの一つが「岳間製茶」です。
木の看板に「岳間製茶」の文字。緑の茶壺の看板が目印です。お茶の製造直売所ですが、店内では地元の野菜が買えたり、「山におまかせ」という食事処でランチをいただくこともできます。なお、ランチは予約が必要です。渓谷を訪れる前に、電話などで予約しておくと安心です。
そして、立ち寄ると岳間茶を振る舞っていただけます。
写真でも伝わるでしょうか、この鮮やかな緑色。山あいの寒暖差と清らかな水が育てた岳間茶は、香りも味わいも本当においしい。家でもこんなお茶が淹れられたらいいのに、、、笑
お土産には、もちろんこの岳間茶を。渓谷の湧き水とあわせて、山鹿・鹿北の「水とお茶」をまるごと持ち帰るのもおすすめです。
訪れる際の情報
場所:熊本県山鹿市鹿北町。岳間渓谷の近くにあります。車でのアクセスが便利です。
できること:お茶の購入、地元野菜の購入、食事処「山におまかせ」でのランチ(要予約)。立ち寄るとお茶を振る舞っていただけます。

Takema Seicha — A Cup of Tea in the Hills of Yamaga, Kumamoto
In an earlier post about Takema Gorge, I mentioned that this area is tea country, home to a fine green tea called Takema-cha. This time, I’d like to introduce a place where you can actually taste it.
Takema has several tea shops. One of them is Takema Seicha (Takema Tea Works).
A wooden sign reads “Takema Seicha,” marked by a green tea-jar emblem. It is a tea producer with a direct shop, but you can also buy local vegetables inside, or have lunch at the attached restaurant called “Yama ni Omakase” (roughly, “Leave it to the Mountain”). Note that lunch requires a reservation, so it’s best to book ahead by phone before your visit. It makes a perfect stop when you’re already visiting the gorge.
And if you drop by, you’ll be served a cup of Takema-cha.
Here is that tea. I hope the photo conveys it — this vivid green. Grown with the day-to-night temperature swings and clean water of these hills, Takema-cha is genuinely delicious in both aroma and taste. I caught myself thinking, “I wish I could brew tea this good at home.”
For a souvenir, the tea itself is the obvious choice. Paired with spring water from the gorge, you can take home the “water and tea” of the Kahoku hills together.
Visitor Information
Location: Kahoku, Yamaga City, Kumamoto Prefecture, near Takema Gorge. Easiest to reach by car.
What you can do: Buy tea and local vegetables, and have lunch at the restaurant “Yama ni Omakase” (reservation required). Visitors are served a cup of tea.
Combine with: Pair it with a walk through Takema Gorge for a relaxed half-day. See the gorge post as well.
There is nothing flashy about it — just good tea and mountain air, and a quiet place to take a breath.
